The 2026 FIFA World Cup preparations are under way, and the organizers are working at full speed to showcase to the world what is about to be the most glamorous sporting event. This will be the second time in history that the United States has hosted the biggest soccer competition in the world after being home to the 1994 FIFA World Cup. This time, Mexico and Canada will be co-hosts, as the games will be played in 11 stadiums in the three countries.
The last World Cup in Qatar set new trends in terms of organization and facilities, and there is no doubt that the hosts of the 2026 FIFA World Cup will take that to another level. One of the features that will make the entire experience way more exciting is the stadium LED screens that will be a part of every venue during the 2026 World Cup.
Of course, there is nothing more exciting than watching the action on the spot, but fans at the stadiums and in front of them will have the opportunity to see every play on the stadium LED screens, whose size and screen features will be something that we have never seen before.
With the technological advancement happening every day, the 2026 World Cup will provide us with a unique experience in enjoying sporting events.
Stadium LED screens are something that we have already seen at sports venues around the world. The one that got the most hype was the Stadium LED screen at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, the home of the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys hosted the Philadelphia Eagles on Thanksgiving in 2009, and the fans at the stadium were able to see the massive stadium LED screen for the first time.
At the time, that was the world's largest 1080p video board, containing 30 million light bulbs and 25,000 square feet of video displays, which cost $40 million, which is more than the original cost of building Texas Stadium. Each of the two center-hung sideline displays is 160 feet wide and 72 feet tall. The boards stretch from one 20-yard line to the other 20-yard line, and each of the stadium LED screens weighs 1.2 million pounds. The screen area for each sideline display board is 11,393 square feet, with a pixel pitch of 20mm and a power consumption of 635 kilowatts.
That Stadium LED screen looked even more impressive during the 2010 NBA All-Star game as it looked bigger than the entire basketball court.
Fast forward to this year, the Allegiant Stadium in Vegas featured the best display technology we have ever seen. For the purpose of the Super Bowl LVIII, the stadium was outfitted with over 66,000 square feet of LED screens and more than 93 million pixels, including three videoboards installed in the end zones.
What was even more impressive was that a 27,600-square-foot stadium LED screen was positioned on the exterior of the building, giving the fans who could not enter the stadium a unique experience of the game. Many may believe that being so close to the action and still being out of the stadium can be disappointing experience, but there is no doubt that it is an exciting way to watch the game.
For instance, the most prestigious tennis tournament in the world, Wimledon, is known for the Henman Hill, where thousands of fans watch the tennis action on large stadium LED screens, and the organizers even sell tickets for this experience.
With the World Cup being one of the top sporting events with billions of fans watching around the world, the organizers will make sure the fans in and around the stadium have an memorable experience. Stadium LED screens will have a major role in that, and we can’t wait to see what that will look like.
